For your automatic transmission fluid to do it's job, the appropriate temperature needs to be maintained. Problems arise when the fluid gets so hot that the viscosity (fliud consistancy relative to thick or thin) thins out to the point of failing to lubricate the moving parts properly. This can lead to delayed shifts, excessive slippage during shifting, and premature wear of transmission internals.
Similar to the radiator in your cooling system, Fluidyne's Multiflow A/T Fluid Cooler keeps the fluid in check by passing the hot fluid through a maze of eiter 6 or 9 passages (depending on the level of performance needed) riddled with braized aluminum fins designed to rapidly dissipate heat before returning the fluid to the transmission. Factory radiators in vehicles with an automatic transmission do have a " A/T fuild cooler" built into the bottom end tank of the radiator. However heat is dissipated far slower due to heat built up from the radiators primary job of dissipating built-up coolant heat. If you plan on aggressively driving you A/T equipped vehicle, be proactive about protecting your automatic transmission. The consequences can be EXPENSIVE!
*NOTE: Fluidyne Radiators are not equipped for automatic transmission vehicles with transmission fluid cooling systems built into the stock radiator. The Fluidyne Multiflow A/T Fluid Cooler will not only replace the factory system, but will be 100% more efficient!
